Origins
|
 |
The family
probably has origins in Viuz en Sallaz - Haute Savoie - France. Some sources indicate southern
France and particularly the area around Nice.
|
 |
 |
The family has split into two lines, the Vaud line
(ours) and the Fribourg line.
- Vaud line
Peney-Le-Jorat (ca 1544), Vucherens (ca 1580) et Genève
(1950)
-
Fribourg line
Bionnens, Esmonts, Cutterwil, Genève (1912),
Lausanne (1956), Moudon (1957), Chancy (1958), Presinge (1962) et
Vullierens (1962)
|
Etymologie
- Gavillet is derivate from Gavelle (de Javelle =
flower leaf) and means gatherer of flower leafs.
Switzerland Anno 1536
- I found a map of Switzerland indicating the situation over the
period 1536 - 1798 within the current borders

Crest of the family Gavillet - Peney-le-Jorat
|
 |
 |
gueules)
( GALBREATH: Armorial Vaudois) |
I found another family crest.
Although less official, it supports the possibility that the family has
Meditteranian origines.
The head of the moor is found in the crests of Corsica
and Sardinia.
