Origins

My research showed that the origins of our family are found around 1600 in the village of Horssen. This is in the centre of the land between Maas and Waal. De original name of the family is "de Ruijter". The "j" has been lost around the marriage of Roeloff de Ruijter as a result of an error at the civil records office.

Today Horssen is a borough of Druten.

The oldest (most probable) ancestor is Jacobus de Ruijter, born around 1600 and died in 1668. His son was Gerrit Jacobs de Ruiter, born around 1634, followed by Roelof Gerrits de Ruiter, born around 1665.. His son Joannes de Ruijter (about1700-1746) married in 1731 with Geertien Konings and had 6 children. Amongst whom Roelof de Ruijter who was baker in Horssen. His son Jan moved to Gennep in Northern Limburg and was also baker. Jan's son Roeloff moved to Rotterdam - South Holland and became leather tanner. With his son Willem started 3 generations of PTT -  Post, Telephone and Telegraph employees. After Willem, Rudolf and his sons Leo, Henk and Johan were employed by the PTT. Wil, one of Rudolf's daughters emigrated to Tasmania - Australia, after being married "by proxy" with John Meyer

Crest of the family de Ruijter

The family does not own an official crest. On basis of normal heraldic practices, a crest for the family "de Ruiter" could be as shown below

If we limit ourselves to the name
" de Ruiter"
Or, if we combine the names
"de Ruiter" and "Vink"

In the Netherlands, the use of family crests is subject to severe rules and regulations and therefore the above serves
as illustration only and under no condition may be used as a formal family crest.
